Dumb Angel

by A Journey of Giraffes

/
1.
The Angelus 01:06
Please watch our fields. Keep us safe from harm. When nighttime comes keep us from the dark. Amen.
2.
Wow 00:46
...I love you!

I was stuck in El Paso when a horse snapped my lasso and I traded my boots for the truth and a room with a view. With your heart on your sleeve, well, I couldn't believe that I'd come full circle to find you! Twice a day the mayor would say you look much happier since you found your one true love. Well, there's no disagreein', she's constantly pleasin', she's been making a home, not alone, and I've hung my hat up. By hook, by crook... By hook, by crook... At least once a night I keep it mind to thank the Lord that I found you. Now the tumbleweed's gone since I've been singing this song and there's a fence needing paint 'fore it rains so I best be pushin' on. Find yourself a good woman 'cause there's no sense in lookin' when it rains wooden nickels and all, well, you'll both be cozy. In the old saloon there's our favorite needlepoint, there's our favorite needlepoint, it's the perfect sampler!

Fresh zen air doo-waa! (I don't wanna get out of bed.) Fresh zen air doo-wa! (I don't wanna get out of bed.)
5.
Barnyard Billy loves his chickens- spends the day just pickin' and grinnin'. Crackin' some eggs then crackin' some jokes- baking a pie for the lonely folks.
6.
Proper passage now we're home- we're so cozy. Proper passage say hello- it's so rosy. Now the evening brings its charms; we're so tired, oh so tired, we're so tired. Who laid the tracks down? Proper passage morning comes with a halo. Proper passage now we're done in the meadow. Now the evening brings its charms; we're so tired, oh so tired, we're so tired. Who laid the tracks down? Sneak a kiss- I know you're there like the tulip. Sweetly comes the air around like mint julep. Just to hold you in my arms when we're tired, oh so tired, we're so tired. Who laid the tracks down? Over and over, the moon rise...
7.
She paints wonderlands when I'm asleep. She paints wonderlands when I'm awake. And now she's picking up her paintbrush. Outside the stars are shining, calling your name. She paints wonderlands in my dreams. She paints wonderlands in my head. And now she's picking up her paintbrush. Outside the stars are shining, calling your name.
8.
Son and daughter!
9.
A man at a concert playing his role. Dressed up so fancy so far away. Who marks the day light? It's all a dream now. The music's so gone now that's where it really is. I'm making this dream now for eternal bliss. Who marks the day light? It's all a dream now. There's only bricks and mortar there's only kings and castles there's only lords and vassals there's only love. And then, hope! And then hope!...

Potatoes 04:05
I like to eat them with a knife and fork- they're potatoes, oh potatoes! Put aside your beans and pork- they're potatoes, oh potatoes! They've been the downfall of many a man; who can resist them? I sure can't. They're superb; you'll agree. Just one bite- you'll see. I like to mash them with my hand- they're potatoes, oh potatoes! You can get them all across this land- they're potatoes, oh potatoes! They've been the downfall of many a man; who can resist them? I sure can't. They're superb; you'll agree. Just one bite- you'll see. Get up; take a walk around the block. I'd rather eat them than bread or meat- they're potatoes, oh potatoes! I really think they're the tastiest treat- they're potatoes, oh potatoes! Idaho! Idaho! Idaho!.... Get up; take a walk around the block.
12.
Dusker 01:46
Nowhere as close to you nowhere Dusker! (Dusker!)
13.
14.
Rain...here (here) rain (rain) (here).... ...Amen!
15.
Oh! She's smiling now she's staring straight at me. Ah! She's giving me a look of certainty. Keep on the wavelength! Ah! She's coming home with the flowers that she brings. We'll share the song that only we can sing. Keep on the wavelength!

about

A Journey of Giraffes is John Lane.

Album cover by Jon Hunt.

credits

released January 15, 2016

This album is dedicated to my wife, my kids, my brother, Brian Wilson, Van Dyke Parks, The Beach Boys, The Wrecking Crew, Jon Hunt, Christian Lipski, Darian Sahanaja, Domenic Priore, Bill Tobelman, and God. In addition, I especially dedicate this album to the late Paul Williams, *the* pioneering rock journalist/editor of Crawdaddy, whose writings on The Beach Boys sent me to the moon every time; I had the honor of having a piece of writing (or two?) placed in the last issues of Crawdaddy, and it was a dream to actually correspond with him and to discover that one of my heroes is/was as kind & big-hearted as their works.
